Thiruvananthapuram: Political parties today called for hartal in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode districts on Thursday To protest the police action against Mahija, mother of Jishnu Pranoy,. While the Congress and the BJP called for hartal in Thiruvananthapuram, the BJP has also called for hartal in Kozhikode. Mahija and her relatives reached the Kerala Police headquarters here today morning, but the police refused to give permission for hunger strike in front of the headquarters. The agitators were then forcibly removed from spot. In the melee, Jishnu’s mother and his uncle sustained injuries and were later shifted to hospital. Jishnu Pranoy, an engineering student of Pampady Nehru College, was found dead in his hostel room early this year. However, no arrest was made in this case so far. The parents and the relatives were planning to launch a hunger strike in front of the DGP office from today.
