ഷിക്കാഗോ: വടക്കേ അമേരിക്കയിലെ മലയാളി എഴുത്തുകാരേയും അവരുടെ കൃതികളേയും പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനായി ലാനയുടെ ആഭിമുഖ്യത്തില്‍ ഓരോ ത്രൈമാസ കാലയളവിലും പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന മികച്ച കൃതികളുടെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍ 2013-ലെ രണ്ടാം ത്രൈമാസ കലയളവില്‍ ഡോ. ശ്രീധരന്‍ കര്‍ത്താ (ലേഖനം), ജോണ്‍ ഇളമത (ചെറുകഥ), എല്‍സി യോഹന്നാന്‍ ശങ്കരത്തില്‍ (കവിത) എന്നിവരുടെ കൃതികള്‍ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു. മാതൃഭൂമി ആഴ്‌ചപ്പതിപ്പില്‍ മെയ്‌ അഞ്ചാം തീയതി പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച `മദപ്പാടിന്റെ കാമശാസ്‌ത്രം' എന്ന ലേഖനമാണ്‌ പ്രസ്‌തുത വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ `എതിരന്‍ കതിരവന്‍' എന്ന ബ്ലോഗ്‌ പേരില്‍ എഴുതുന്ന ഡോ. കര്‍ത്തായെ അംഗീകാരത്തിനര്‍ഹനാക്കിയത്‌. മാതൃഭൂമി ആഴ്‌ചപ്പതിപ്പ്‌ ബ്ലോഗിലെ മികച്ച കൃതികള്‍ക്കുവേണ്ടി `ബ്ലോഗന' എന്ന പംക്തി തുടങ്ങിയത്‌ എതിരന്‍ കതിരവന്റെ ലേഖനത്തോടനുകൂടിയായിരുന്നു. ശാസ്‌ത്രം, സംഗീതം, നൃത്തം സിനിമ എന്നീ വിഷയങ്ങളെ അധികരിച്ച്‌ 85-ഓളം ബ്ലോഗ്‌ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണങ്ങളുള്ള അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പല കൃതികളും മാതൃഭൂമി, ചന്ദ്രിക, കലാകൗമുദി, സമകാലിക മലയാളം തുടങ്ങിയ ആഴ്‌ചപ്പതിപ്പുകളില്‍ കവര്‍ സ്റ്റോറിയായും മറ്റും പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. ആനയുടെ മദപ്പാടിന്റെ ശാസ്‌ത്രീയ, ജൈവ, സാമൂഹ്യവശങ്ങള്‍ വിശകലനം ചെയ്‌ത്‌ എഴുതിയ `മദപ്പാടിന്റെ കാമശാസ്‌ത്രം' പരക്കെ വായിക്കപ്പെടുകയും വിലയിരുത്തപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്‌തിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. ഇ മലയാളി ഡോട്ട്‌കോം, ജോയിച്ചന്‍ പുതുക്കുളം ഡോട്ട്‌കോം എന്നീ ഓണ്‍ലൈന്‍ മാധ്യമങ്ങളില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ട `രണ്ടാം ജന്മം' എന്ന ആക്ഷേപഹാസ്യ കഥയാണ്‌ ജോണ്‍ ഇളമതയ്‌ക്ക്‌ ചെറുകഥാ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ അംഗീകാരം നേടിക്കൊടുത്തത്‌. നോവല്‍, ചെറുകഥ, കവിത എന്നീ വിഭാഗങ്ങളിലായി അന വധി കൃതികള്‍ രചിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള അദ്ദേഹം കാനഡയിലെ ടൊറന്റോയില്‍ സ്ഥിരതാമസക്കാരനാണ്‌. `ബുദ്ധ',?`അച്ചാന്‍ അമേരിക്കയില്‍' എന്നിവയാണ്‌ ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ കൃതികള്‍. നാട്ടിലും അമേരിക്കയിലും വിവിധ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണങ്ങളിലൂടെ സാഹിത്യസപര്യ നടത്തുന്നു. എല്‍സി യോഹന്നാന്‍ ശങ്കരത്തില്‍ രചിച്ച `ജന്മനാടിന്റെ സ്‌മരണകളിലൂടെ' എന്ന കവിതയാണ്‌ ആ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ 2013-ലെ രണ്ടാം ത്രൈമാസ കാലയളവിലെ മികച്ച കൃതിയായി തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടത്‌. ഇ മലയാളി ഡോട്ട്‌കോമില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ഗൃഹാതുരത്വമുണര്‍ത്തുന്ന ഈ കവിത മാതൃഭൂമി വിട്ട്‌ അന്യദേശത്ത്‌ കുടിയേറിപ്പാര്‍ക്കുന്ന ഓരോ മലയാളിയുടേയും മനസിന്റെ വികാരമായി വായനക്കാര്‍ക്ക്‌ അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നു. അമേരിക്കയിലേയും കേരളത്തിലേയും ആനുകാലികങ്ങളില്‍ ഇംഗ്ലീഷിലും മലയാളത്തിലുമായി അനവധി കവിതകളും കഥകളും ലേഖനങ്ങളും പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. നാലപ്പാട്ട്‌ നാരായണമേനോന്‍ അവാര്‍ഡ്‌, സങ്കീര്‍ത്തനം അവാര്‍ഡ്‌ തുടങ്ങി നിരവധി അംഗീകാരങ്ങള്‍ കരസ്ഥമാക്കിയ എല്‍സി യോഹന്നാന്റെ എട്ട്‌ കവിതാ സമാഹാരങ്ങള്‍ ഇതിടോകം പ്രസിദ്ധപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്‌.

I agree with Sudhir’s opinion. At the top of the news it says the award is instituted for North American Pravasi writers. That is for the encouragement of North American Malayalee resident writers. Not only that LANA instituted and promulgated that policy. We do not know whether they are following that. Now it seems the same Lana people breaking its own policy and they are awarding to their friends where ever they are. This particular case who is this Dr. Sridhara Kartha? Is he a North American Malayalee pravasi resident? Did he publish any literary work at any of our on line or print editions of Pravasi US publications. How many of you read or know him as a writer? Even if you read at Kerala, he is not a North American resident. So, if Lana is going to recognize Kerala resident writers there are so many great writers to be recognized. So, this case Lana, clearly broken the rules by recognizing someone in Kerala, who may be a friend of some of Lana authorities. Any way who cares all these awards? Just pointed out, that is all.
