KANJ College Prep Seminar, a Grand Success

Kerala Association of New Jersey conducted a College Prep Seminar for High School Students and parents at Cedar Hill Prep School in Somerset on April 01 2017. The event was a grand success with the crowd overflowing the auditorium. The seminar started on time with KANJ VP, Ajith Hariharan welcoming the audience and introducing the format by letting the participants know that it is an interactive session and all their questions will be answered by the experts on hand. The Charity Affairs chair, Nandini Menon who spearheaded the event and was part of the expert panel introduced the other experts on hand for the day. Asha Nambiar, Assistant Director, Student Services, Princeton University and Nita Jain from Reach College Counseling Services were the other two panelists.

 

 

 

The panelist walked through the process of constructing a road map right at the start of freshman year in high school and building the resume over the four year period to get accepted into the college of choice It was a such an absorbing session that no one wanted to leave their seats during the two and half hour period . Nita, Nandini and Asha took everyone on a virtual tour of what lies ahead when preparing for the college admissions. It was an eye opener for many. Handouts were given explaining the five steps guide to paying for college. Emphasis was given on preparing essays, getting recommendation letters and being a well rounded student, the colleges are looking for. The panelists were successful in making the audience understand the importance of planning for a good college begins at the start of freshman year in high school. At the conclusion of the event KANJ President Swapna Othayamangalam handed out flower bouquets to all the panelist and profusely thanked them for an amazingly informative program helping kids and parents alike.

 

 

The first quarterly edition of KANJ Newsletter 2017 was released during the event. The first copy was handed out to Mr. Dilip Varghese by President Swapna Othayamangalam and Trustee Board Chairman Mr. Jose Vilayil. KANJ Treasurer Abraham George proposed vote of thanks acknowledging everyone who supported wholeheartedly to the success of the event. The reception was seamless and it was handled by trustee board members Mrs. Anne George (Shyla) and Mr. Roy Mathew. Executive Committee Members Prabhu Kumar, Kevin George, James George, Abraham George, Trustee Board Member and FOMAA General Secretary Jiby Thomas Moolaparambil and other leaders were on hand to see the smooth functioning of the event.

 

The entire event was streamed live for the convenience of people who could not join in. Lunch was served after the seminar. This college prep seminar has turned out to be one of the highly acclaimed programs conducted by KANJ in recent times aiming at Community service.
