Malappuram: Indian Union Muslim League today said that both Congress and IUML has equal responsibility to maintain their relationwhip in the United Democratic Front. Speaking to reporters after IUML party leadership meeting here, party General Secretary E T Muhammed Basheer said the relationship between Congress and IUML was several years old. The relation between league and Congress was for all, he said, adding 'Congress can take their decision and IUML their decision' on whether that relation should continue, he said. The meeting assumes significance in the backdrop of the reported adverse remark by KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala at a function in Kozhikode against IUML, which was later denied by Chennithala. Basheer said that an emergent Secretariat meeting of the IUML will be convened on July 4 to discuss various issues. Chennithala, while speaking at a function to commemorate the death anniversary of the former KPCC president and Gandhian C K Govindan Nair had reportedly remarked that he (Chennithala) supported Nair's view that the party should draw a 'lakshman rekha' to keep forces which promoted division on the basis of caste and religion at bay.
