The central leadership of CPM has rejected the stand taken by Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan on Gadgil/Kasturirangan report. Politburo member Sitaram Yechury said on Thursday that in the issue, CPM State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had voiced the party’s stand.
“If the party cadres have expressed different opinions, the party leadership has got the grit to solve that issue,” said Yechury, who suggested a thorough debate on Gadgil committee report.
Pinarayi had remarked that Achuthanandan might have supported the Gadgil report due to some misunderstandings. Achuthanandan retorted that, saying he had no misunderstanding and he was for the implementation of the report with a few changes here and there.
These conflicting stands taken by the party’s top leaders had thrown sufficient hints that two opinions existed within the party. It was then that the CPM’s central leadership came out with its official statement.
