Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi is expected to take part in the ongoing 'Yuva Kerala Yatra' led by State Youth Congress President Dean Kuriakose on Monday.

The Yatra from Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram, flagged-off last month, has reached Alappuzha and it would proceed to nearby Pathanamthitta on Monday.

"Gandhi would join the padyatra tomorrow (Monday) for sometime," party sources said. He would arrive in Kochi and would proceed to Alappuzha. In view of Gandhi's visit, security has been tightened in the area, they added.

Rahul Gandhi is expected to land at Nedumbasseri airport at around 12 noon. From there he will reach Kayamkulam NTPC ground in a helicopter and will proceed to Charumood on road. The police and Special Security Force has also arranged a contingency plan to take Rahul Gandhi to Kayamkulam through road in case the helicopter journey is averted at the last moment.

Rahul Gandhi will be travelling to Charumood, where he will be accorded a reception, en route to Adoor. Though it was earlier decided that Rahul would be travelling on foot from Kayakulam to Charumoodu, it has been cancelled and he is expected to join the marchers at Charumoodu or few miles before it, at Vettikkot.

Though Rahul Gandhi had preferred to have shown interest in the foot march rather than addressing the rally, he has reportedly agreed to speak at a venue in view of the demand from Youth Congress workers. The party workers have reportedly made elaborate arrangements, including Onattukara Sadya (feast), at the reception venue in Charumoodu for Rahul Gandhi.  

However the Special Protection Group has not published the final route-map of Rahul Gandhi's programme on Monday.

The Yuva Kerala Yatra highlighting slogans of secularism and non-violance, was inaugurated by KPCC president and state Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.
