The solar scam, which has brought Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's office under a cloud, continued to haunt the UDF Government with the LDF-led Opposition on Tuesday disrupting the Assembly proceedings seeking Chandy's resignation and a judicial probe. Following this, Speaker G Karthikeyan adjourned the proceedings temporarily.

Opposition leaders staged protest with placards and slogans inside the Assembly as the complainant Sreedharan Nair claimed the CM had met and discussed the project with him and the accused Saritha Nair was also present at that time.

Nair told Malayalam TV channels on Monday after his statement earlier in the day before a magistrate that he had met Chandy on July 9, 2012, and discussed the project with him.

His statement assumes significance in the wake of Chandy's assertions in the Assembly that he had met Nair only as a representative of a quarry owners' association and had not discussed anything about the solar project.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan reassured that the probe has been going in the right direction. He said the guilty will not be spared.

Thiruvanchoor added that that no immediate action can be taken based on Nair's new statements. The statements has to be examined, he said.
