Legendary actor Dilip Kumar, who turned 92 today, was discharged from hospital where he was admitted last week for a chest infection.
As the actor stepped out of the hospital, he was greeted by anxious fans who had come to enquire about his health and wish him on his birthday.
"Dilip Saab is feeling great now and does not require to be in hospital. So we have discharged him," Dr Jalil Parkar, a well-known pulmonologist, who treated the veteran actor at Lilavati hospital, told PTI.
"He will only continue with his routine medication now which he has been taking due to his age," he said.
The actor was admitted to the hospital on December 6 after he complained of cold and breathlessness. He was later diagnosed with bronchopneumonia.
Uday Tara Nayar, a family friend and co-author of the actor's autobiography, told PTI, "Dilip saab is fine now. He has recovered well."
On the occasion of his birthday, several B-Town stars including melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, filmmaker Subhash Ghai and actor Anupam Kher wished the veteran actor good health and speedy recovery.
Sharing a link of their duet from 1957 film 'Musafir', Mangeshkar wrote, "Today is the birthday of my elder brother Dilip Kumar. I pray to god that he is always happy and has a long life."
Calling Kumar his master in life and a living legend, Ghai posted, "Happy birthday to my two great masters who contributed a lot in my personal enlightenment. One is Osho and the other is living legend Dilip Kumar."
Kher said that Kumar is a one of a kind actor and there will never be anyone like him again.
"Happy Birthday Dilip Kumar saab. The real thespian of Indian Cinema. Long and happy life. They don't make actors or people like him anymore," Kher, 59, tweeted.
Born Muhammad Yusuf Khan on December 11, 1922, in Peshawar (now in Pakistan), his acting career spanned six decades.
Though Dilip Kumar's film resume is limited to just 60 films but most of them feature into the classics list of Hindi cinema - be it the tragic love story of 'Devdas', the incarnation story of 'Madhumati', the sweeping historical romance of 'Mughal-e-Azam', the love triangle of 'Andaz', or the man versus machine theme of 'Naya Daur'.
His second innings in acting saw him playing memorable character roles in 'Kranti', 'Shakti', 'Karma' and 'Saudagar'.
