Sonia in capital on two-day visit

: Congress President Sonia Gandhi will arrive in Thiruvananthapuram Sunday on a two day visit to the state capital. She will inaugurate the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Development Studies at Neyyar Dam Sunday. She will be accompanied by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala to the venue.

Her itinerary will include unveiling of the statue of R Shankar at 4.55 pm. The unveiling of the statue at Palayam will be conducted by pressing a switch at a stage in the Senate Hall, which is within half a kilometer's distance from R Shankar's statue. The 'Arogya Kiranam' Programme of the state government will be inaugurated at Kanakakkunnu Palace at 5.45 pm. Sonia Gandhi, who is staying at the Raj Bhavan, will hold talks with UDF leaders from 7.30 pm to 8 pm. Further, she will attend the dinner hosted by Governor, Nikhil Kumar.

On Monday, Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the dream project of the UDF government, 'Bhoorahitharillatha Keralam' (The Kerala sans landless) at Central Stadium at 11.45 am. Further, the Congress chief will lay foundation stone of the second campus of the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology in Akkulam at 12.45 pm.

Sonia Gandhi will return to Mandya in Karnataka in a special flight at 1.45 pm after winding up the programmes in the state capital. Due to security reasons there can be last-minute alterations in the time of the scheduled visits of the UPA chief.
