The two warring factions of Malankara church-- Jacobites and Orthodox today observed protest day in their respective parishes.
The Orthodox faction read out pastoral letters in their parishes today, protesting against government's 'inaction' in taking proper steps in preventing the Jacobite faction from entering the disputed Thrikkunnathu church yesterday and offering worship.
Yesterday, Catholicos Baselious Thomas I of the Jacobite faction had along with five metropolitans forcibly entered the disputed church and offered prayers. They were later arrested and released.
Prohibitory orders have been clamped today near the church and a two km area.
The orthodox faction has decided on organise a protest day on February 4 in front of the Collectorate.
According to the faction, the action of the Jacobites Catholicos was 'unchristian' and politically motivated to bring pressure on Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
