Thirty per cent of the LPG from the tanker that overturned on Saturday killing an autorickshaw driver was shifted to another tanker on Sunday, thus avoiding the danger of an explosion.

A combined task force of police, fire fighters and experts from Indian Oil Corporation had successfully contained the leakage of LPG from the tanker on Saturday night, after trying for fiver hours.

The officials are now planning to lift the tanker using a crane before shifting rest of the LPG.

Auto driver Kunduparambu resident Ravi died at the accident spot after being crushed under the LPG gas tanker that overturned on his vehicle due to the rash driving of the tanker driver.

The driver of the gas tanker lost control while negotiating a curve and it fell on the autorickshaw parked on the roadside for some repair works, officials said.

The driver and cleaner of the tanker fled after the accident, but a case was charge against the driver.

After spotting the gas leakage, the district administration as a precautionary measure put sand bags around the tanker and cooled the tanker spraying water from five fire tenders.

They also moved people residing nearby the area to safer places and while traffic in the area was diverted through other roads. They had also cut the electricity supply to the area to avoid the explosion.

Meanwhile, Kerala Home Minister, Ramesh Chennithala on Saturday told the public that precautionary measures have been taken to avert a serious situation and there is no need for anxiety.
